About us
Jim Kinnear is a freelance photographer who has been working with the South Delta Leader since 2004
Jim studied photography at Focal Point Studios through Langara College continuing education. One of the many courses involved the use of the large format view camera. An extremely versatile and somewhat complex piece of equipment that he immediately fell in love with.
After completing most of his courses Jim tried his hand at architectural photography . But after securing photo accreditation at the Vancouver Molson Indy decided his 35MM cameras were easier to carry and moving objects were much more interesting and fun to photograph. He covered the Indy for ten years and moved on to cover the Cloverdale Rodeo and concerts at GM place for The Northern Light in Blaine WA. As well as one snowboard race at Mt. Baker for the Mt. Baker Experience. ( Jim isn’t a skier) although his efforts resulted in a two page spread.
On moving to Delta Jim was given some relief assignments for the South Delta Leader which led to his becoming one of the regular freelancers, contributing images on a weekly basis.
Jim's work for the South Delta Leader involves editorial and sports photography. After years of honing his skills as a sports photographer this web site and these galleries are the next step in his career. Jim has developed a knowledge of most sports played in South Delta and has the ability to not only read the game but to anticipate what is probably going to happen next and creates some wonderful action shots that anyone would be proud to display.
